Dr. Humphrey Sputt

Health & Wellbeing Columnist

Dr. Humphrey Sputt writes on health, medicine, and wellbeing. His columns on wine have caused and cured cancer on alternate weeks since 2006.

Dr. Humphrey Sputt qualified as a general practitioner in 1988 and practiced medicine for eleven years before discovering that writing about medicine paid better and involved considerably less medicine. He joined Eleutheria's health pages in 2001 and has since covered nutrition, exercise, mental health, longevity, and the recurring question of whether wine is good or bad for you, a topic on which he has written 34 columns reaching 34 different conclusions. Dr. Sputt is a firm believer in evidence-based medicine and reserves the right to interpret the evidence creatively. He has appeared as a health expert on television on fourteen occasions, twelve of which he considers to have gone well. He lives in Bath, which he considers appropriate. He drinks wine. Moderately. Mostly.
